Watercolor Wednesday: Prickly Pear Cactus

Join us for a relaxing afternoon of watercolor as we paint a charming Prickly Pear cactus in bloom. This project focuses on creating soft botanical forms while learning how to build depth, texture, and realism through thoughtful layering.

This class is best suited for those who have painted with watercolor before or have taken a class with us here at the studio.

We’ll begin with a brief warm-up to refresh a few essential techniques before diving into our main project. We’ll start by blocking in our base colors and letting the watercolor do what it does best. Once those initial washes have dried, we’ll build dimension using layering and the dry brush technique, creating subtle texture, delicate spines, and the soft, velvety blooms that bring these cacti to life.
